The Estée Lauder Companies filed a federal lawsuit against Walmart for allegedly selling counterfeit versions of its high-end fragrance and skincare products. The cosmetics giant filed the legal action in a California federal court.
The lawsuit alleges trademark infringement and false designation of origin regarding products sold on Walmart’s website. Estée Lauder claims the retail giant sold knockoff versions of brands including Le Labo, Clinique, La Mer, and Tom Ford.
The filing asserts that branding on the items sold by Walmart was identical or substantially indistinguishable from genuine Estée Lauder products. Estée Lauder seeks a court order to halt the sale of the alleged counterfeit goods and is requesting monetary damages.
