Walmart has partnered with Google to launch an AI upskilling program for its 1.6 million employees. The initiative is supported by a nearly US$1 billion investment in technical training programs.

Workers will utilize the Google AI Professional Certificate to bridge existing technical skills gaps. This move supports Walmart’s strategy to integrate AI across its enterprise to improve operational effectiveness. The company identifies the development of AI capabilities as a critical competitive imperative.

The announcement follows Walmart achieving a US$1 trillion market valuation in February 2026. Analysts cited the early adoption of AI as the primary driver for reaching this financial milestone.
