An Amazon Air cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6. The Boeing 767 aircraft was operated by contractor 21 Air. The flight originated from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and overran the runway. At least five people died in the accident.
Official statements from Amazon and authorities followed on Monday, September 7. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched investigations. Amazon expressed heartbreak over the loss of life and confirmed it is cooperating with authorities regarding the heavily damaged Prime Air-branded plane.
This incident marks the second fatal crash for Amazon’s logistics network. A previous Atlas Air flight crashed in 2019. That earlier accident resulted in three deaths. The event brings significant scrutiny to Amazon’s delivery operations while U.S. markets remain closed for the Labor Day holiday.
