EU regulators are resisting Tesla’s plans for a broad European launch of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. The Dutch vehicle authority (RDW) granted initial approval, which the EU is currently reviewing. Internal documents reveal that officials in multiple member states harbor serious skepticism and safety concerns.

Regulators in Sweden, Finland, and Norway identified specific technical issues with the system. These officials cited FSD’s tendency to exceed speed limits and its performance in hazardous or icy conditions. They also expressed concern regarding the potential for drivers to bypass attentiveness safeguards.

The approval remains critical for Tesla’s strategy to increase European market share and high-margin software revenue. The next EU committee meetings will not occur until July. This timeline suggests a wider rollout of the technology is unlikely this summer.
