TSMC is leading a $37 billion foreign investment surge into Japan’s semiconductor industry. The company committed approximately NT$593 billion to establish two chip fabrication plants. The first facility launched mass production in 2024. The second plant is currently under construction.

TSMC and Sony formed a joint venture named Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. This entity will develop and manufacture next-generation smartphone image sensors. Total investment for the venture reaches approximately $4.7 billion. TSMC is contributing $1.8 billion to the partnership. Mass production for the sensor venture is scheduled to begin in 2029. These initiatives diversify TSMC's manufacturing base and strengthen global supply chain ties.
