CATL and Ford Motor Company have launched production at a new battery manufacturing facility in Michigan. Ford wholly owns the plant, which operates under a technical licensing agreement with CATL.

The site represents the first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery plant in the United States. It maintains a planned annual capacity of 35 GWh. This output provides enough power for approximately 400,000 electric vehicles.

The facility will deliver its first battery batch in 2026 for Ford’s electric pickup trucks. This project shifts CATL’s business model from direct exports to integrated international investment.

CATL continues its global expansion with additional plants in Hungary and Indonesia scheduled to begin operations this year.
