Toyota Motor Europe unveiled its heavy-duty hydrogen strategy at the IAA Transportation 2026 conference.
The company is partnering with Scania and IVECO to integrate third-generation fuel cell systems into their commercial trucks. This new technology doubles the power output and durability of previous models at a lower cost.
Toyota will also become an equal shareholder in cellcentric, a joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo Group. The partnership aims to accelerate the development of fuel cell technology for the heavy transport sector.
These collaborations support Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality. The strategy prioritizes hydrogen for commercial vehicles that require long ranges and fast refueling.
