Apple appointed John Ternus as Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 2026.

Ternus currently serves as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

Tim Cook will transition to executive chairman of the board after serving as CEO since 2011.

The board of directors unanimously approved the decision following a long-term succession planning process.

Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and led development for the iPhone, iPad, and AirPods.

Cook will remain CEO through the summer of 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

In his new role, Cook will oversee company operations and engage with global policymakers.
