Apple released iOS 26.5 to introduce end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between iPhone and Android users. This beta feature enables security by default for cross-platform messaging.

The update follows a collaboration between Apple, Google, and the GSM Association to secure the modern messaging standard. Encryption availability depends on carrier support and will roll out gradually.

Users on iOS 26.5 and the latest Google Messages will see a lock icon in encrypted conversations. The software update also adds new wallpapers and a Suggested Places feature to Apple Maps.
