State health authorities in India launched an investigation into a Tata Electronics factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The facility manufactures components for Apple iPhones.

Local farmers allege that liquid discharge from the plant contaminated farmland. These residents also reported developing skin conditions. Officials are currently collecting water samples and surveying the impacted area.

This inquiry follows a separate probe by the state pollution control board. The board previously warned Tata Electronics of a potential factory shutdown.

Scrutiny ended on June 16 after the board expressed satisfaction with Tata’s corrective actions. Tata stated that recent water analyses confirmed no ongoing contamination.
