Spanish airport operator Aena has taken over the concession for Rio de Janeiro International Airport, known as Galeão. Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) confirmed that all shares in the airport’s operating company had been transferred to Aena, completing a process that began earlier this year.
Aena secured the concession with a winning bid of 2.9 billion reais (approximately $580 million). The concession runs until 2039.
The acquisition makes Aena Brazil’s largest operator of concession airports and brings its portfolio in the country to 18 airports, strengthening its presence in South America.
