Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) entered a definitive agreement to acquire Toronto-based startup Taalas for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2023, Taalas develops specialized AI inference silicon by integrating model weights directly onto the chip.
This architecture aims to eliminate memory bottlenecks and increase efficiency for specific AI workloads. AMD will integrate Taalas’ technology into future accelerator products and system-level solutions alongside its Instinct GPUs.
The acquisition strengthens AMD’s long-term roadmap within the rapidly growing AI inference market. The Taalas team, including several former AMD executives, will join AMD’s Artificial Intelligence Group.
