Amazon will invest an initial $5 billion in AI startup Anthropic, with the potential to reach $25 billion. This new capital adds to the roughly $8 billion Amazon has already invested in the company.
Anthropic committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade. The startup will use AWS as its primary cloud provider for all mission-critical workloads.
Anthropic will utilize Amazon’s custom Trainium chips to build, train, and deploy future AI models including the Claude chatbot. This expanded partnership intensifies competition with the alliance between Microsoft and OpenAI.
