Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched its European Sovereign Cloud. The independent cloud aims to meet stringent EU regulatory and data sovereignty requirements.
The service operates on infrastructure physically and logically separate from existing AWS regions. All data stores within the European Union, and EU-resident employees exclusively control operations.
Separately, Amazon expanded its European footprint by launching 'Amazon Now' in London. The quick commerce service promises 30-minute delivery for groceries and essential items in select parts of the city.
Amazon faces a potential $475 million loss from its equity stake in the bankrupt luxury retailer Saks Global. This follows an unfavorable court ruling.
