Amazon is reportedly planning to lay off as much as 15% of its staff in the People eXperience and Technology (PXT) division, which is its human resources unit, with further job cuts expected in other departments. The PXT division has over 10,000 employees globally. This move is seen as an effort to reduce costs while the company increases its investments in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure, with plans to spend over $100 billion on capital expenditures for these areas. These layoffs follow the company's largest-ever job cuts in 2022-23, which saw 27,000 corporate roles eliminated. This news comes as Amazon resolves a $2.5 billion FTC investigation into its Prime membership practices, a development that has cleared a significant legal risk for the company.
