Amazon appointed 27-year veteran Peter DeSantis to lead a newly formed division. This unit will focus on advancing the company’s artificial intelligence models, custom computer chips, and quantum technology. CEO Andy Jassy announced the strategic move.
The reorganization is a strategic push to accelerate innovation and better integrate these next-generation technologies for customers. It signals Amazon’s heightened focus on achieving long-term growth through foundational technology breakthroughs in the highly competitive AI landscape.
DeSantis previously managed AWS Utility Computing. That division oversees core cloud services, including storage, databases, and AI services.
His new role places him at the forefront of Amazon’s AI efforts, assuming responsibilities previously held by Rohit Prasad. Prasad was instrumental in developing the Alexa AI.
