Amazon founder Jeff Bezos proposed eliminating federal income tax for the bottom half of U.S. earners during a Wednesday CNBC interview.
Bezos noted that the top 1% of taxpayers currently contribute 40% of federal tax revenue. The bottom 50% of earners contribute 3% of total revenue.
He cited a Queens nurse earning $75,000 as an example of the tax burden. This individual pays over $1,000 monthly in taxes while facing high living costs.
Bezos also described taxing Amazon employees earning $50,000 as absurd. He indicated plans to advocate for this policy change publicly.
