Amazon's Project Kuiper and Elon Musk's Starlink may acquire a portion of the European Union's mobile satellite spectrum, according to sources.

An upcoming proposal, expected Wednesday, reserves two-thirds of the spectrum for European companies.

Non-EU companies can bid on the remaining one-third.

The allocation targets licenses currently held by U.S. companies Viasat and EchoStar.

These licenses expire in May 2027.

This move supports the EU's push for technological sovereignty while maintaining foreign competition.

Although some officials lobbied for an exclusive European reserve, the partial foreign access proposal will likely prevail.
