Amazon's Ring is entering the smart lock market with its first device, the Ring Smart Lock, aimed at addressing the common fear of being locked out due to a dead battery. The lock's main innovation is a manual "power dial" that allows users to hand-crank the device, generating enough temporary power to unlock it using the keypad or fingerprint scanner.
The device offers four ways to enter: a fingerprint reader, a backlit keypad, the Ring app, or via Alexa voice commands. It integrates into the company's existing ecosystem and uses Amazon Sidewalk for connectivity. The Ring Smart Lock is set to launch in the first few months of 2027 with a retail price of $249.
