Amazon’s self-driving unit, Zoox, will begin testing its purpose-built, fully autonomous robotaxis in Austin and Miami.

The deployment follows initial data collection in these cities using retrofitted Toyota Highlanders with human safety drivers since mid-2024.

Zoox is also quadrupling its operational area in San Francisco and increasing its presence in Las Vegas.

This expansion positions the company in more direct competition with Alphabet’s Waymo in the U.S. ride-hailing market.
