Anthropic released a research preview of its Model Hardware Standard (MHS). This framework allows AI agents to operate physical hardware including microscopes, robotic arms, and quantum computers.
The standard reduces hardware integration time to enable autonomous AI tasks in scientific research and manufacturing. MHS is model-agnostic and compatible with any device featuring a programmable interface.
Anthropic is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Universal Robots, Danaher, and QIAGEN to integrate the standard. QuEra Computing currently uses the framework to automate laser calibration on quantum computers. Anthropic plans to open-source the standard following a safety evaluation period.
