Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin filed an application with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission for Project Sunrise. The plan involves deploying a constellation of nearly 52,000 satellites.
These satellites will function as orbital data centers powered by solar energy. The network aims to provide significant computing capacity for the artificial intelligence market. This infrastructure seeks to bypass energy constraints faced by terrestrial data centers.
The satellites will utilize optical links and route traffic through the previously announced TeraWave network. The filing positions Blue Origin against Elon Musk’s SpaceX and the startup Starcloud. Both competitors have proposed similar massive satellite constellations for orbital computing.
