The European Commission confirmed a March 24 cyberattack on its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure. Security teams detected and blocked the breach before launching an internal investigation into the incident.
A threat actor claimed responsibility for stealing more than 350 gigabytes of data, including various databases. The hacker reportedly plans to publish the stolen information online without demanding a ransom payment.
Commission officials acknowledged that data was likely compromised during the breach. However, the organization specified that the attack did not affect its core internal systems.
