Finland suspended plans to migrate its election information system to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The government will maintain the platform on domestic servers through the 2027 general election.

The initial migration to AWS servers in Sweden aimed to save €4 million over a ten-year period. However, officials cited concerns that the U.S. CLOUD Act could grant American authorities access to sensitive data.

This potential access conflicts with European Union GDPR privacy regulations. The decision highlights a growing push across Europe for digital autonomy and reduced reliance on U.S. technology firms.
