Six major technology firms, including Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta, issued $244 billion in bonds by mid-July 2026. This volume more than doubles the total debt these companies issued in all of 2025. The firms are borrowing at an unprecedented scale to fund massive artificial intelligence infrastructure. This capital supports the construction of expensive data centers and the acquisition of high-end semiconductors.

The rapid increase in supply is now testing the limits of investor demand. While initial offerings attracted strong interest, the high volume of new debt is causing market fatigue. Consequently, borrowing costs for these technology giants are rising. Some new bonds now carry yields typically associated with riskier debt. Investor demand has also weakened, evidenced by a lower ratio of orders to debt offered.
