Amazon updated its U.S. Conditions of Use to reinstate mandatory individual arbitration. The revised terms took effect on August 14, 2026. This policy change waives the right to class-action lawsuits for most legal disputes.
The move reverses a policy that had been in place for five years. Amazon originally removed the arbitration clause in 2021.
The 2021 removal followed approximately 75,000 individual arbitration demands from Alexa users. Those filings generated tens of millions of dollars in filing fees for the company.
Amazon told Bloomberg the reinstated policy offers a fast and cost-effective method for resolving customer disputes.
