ASML faces near-total China sales ban, following U.S. MATCH Act pressure

The U.S. government is pressuring the Netherlands to ban nearly all ASML chip-making machine sales to China.

This expansion targets older deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography systems. Current restrictions already prohibit the sale of advanced extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and select DUV equipment.

The proposed restrictions stem from the MATCH Act, a U.S. bill requiring allies to align with American technology export policies. The legislation would ban ASML from selling older DUV machines and servicing equipment already in China.

Dutch officials are currently lobbying against the bill. The MATCH Act maintains bipartisan support in Congress and may be attached to the upcoming U.S. defense budget.
