Five European cloud trade associations—CISPE, Belgium’s Beltug, France’s Cigref, Germany’s VOICE, and the CIO Platform Nederland—collectively urged EU antitrust regulators to take immediate action against Broadcom. The groups accuse Broadcom of imposing anti-competitive practices following its acquisition of VMware.
The complaint highlights drastic changes to VMware’s licensing and partner programs. These changes include steep price increases for European cloud service providers. Broadcom also terminated contracts for the majority of these providers.
The associations requested interim measures to suspend the new terms. They are seeking a three-year transition period while the European Commission conducts a full investigation.
CISPE previously warned that Broadcom’s actions threaten the survival of smaller European cloud providers. Broadcom denies the allegations and maintains its commitment to European partners. The European Commission confirmed receipt of the letter and is evaluating the request.
