BP temporarily halted production and evacuated all personnel from its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Isaias approached. The storm was expected to make landfall on the northern Gulf Coast on Friday or early Saturday. BP also removed non-essential staff from its Argos, Atlantis and Mad Dog platforms.
Oil companies across the region have cut production and evacuated facilities. As of Thursday morning, approximately 62.9% of the Gulf’s offshore oil output had been shut in. That amounted to 1.28 million barrels per day. Shell, Chevron and Harbour Energy also halted production and evacuated some platforms.
