Caterpillar and mining giant Vale confirmed an agreement to expand the autonomous haul truck fleet at Vale’s Carajás iron ore complex in Brazil. The deal, implemented gradually over five years, will increase the fleet to approximately 90 haul trucks by 2028. This expansion includes new trucks featuring a 400-ton capacity. Caterpillar’s autonomous solution, Cat® MineStar™ Command for hauling, will operate the fleet. Vale states this strategic expansion aims to increase operational efficiency, improve safety standards, and enhance sustainability. The plan also incorporates a program to retrain employees for new roles within the digital mining environment.
