Bipartisan former FCC officials formally urged the agency to halt an early license review for eight Disney-owned ABC stations. The group includes former chairs who served under both Republican and Democratic presidents.
The current FCC initiated this review more than two years ahead of the standard schedule. Regulators officially cited an investigation into Disney’s diversity and inclusion policies as the basis for the action.
The filing describes the proceeding as a politically motivated assault on free speech and a violation of the Communications Act. The group claims the review attempts to censor content following public criticism of ABC by former President Donald Trump.
