General Motors will open its new corporate headquarters in Detroit on January 12, relocating from the Renaissance Center to a new 12-story tower.

The new, smaller space occupies four floors and totals 200,000 square feet. This facility will serve as the base for executives and employees in departments including finance, legal, and marketing.

GM intends the move to be a significant cultural marker. The design, created with the Gensler architecture firm, draws heavily on GM's mid-century modern legacy. This legacy was famously established by architect Eero Saarinen at the original technical center.

The headquarters aims to blend historical identity with a forward-looking perspective as the company navigates the changing automotive industry.
