General Motors (GM) may have discontinued its controversial Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) system in 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines. This potential change was surfaced by a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado owner, whose VIN lookup indicated the system’s removal.

The DFM system has been linked to lifter failures, prompting long-standing customer requests for improved engine reliability.

GM has not issued an official announcement regarding the change. If confirmed across all V8 models, this engineering shift addresses persistent owner complaints and improves the long-term durability perception of its trucks.

Separately, GM is showcasing a limited-edition Chevrolet Silverado at the Detroit Auto Show, which begins today. The vehicle is part of a collection celebrating America's 250th anniversary.
