A federal court approved a $700 million settlement between Google and 52 U.S. attorneys general. The 2021 antitrust lawsuit accused Google of monopolizing Android app distribution and in-app payment markets.

Consumers who purchased on the Google Play store between August 2016 and September 2023 will receive settlement funds.

The agreement mandates business practice changes for several years. Google must allow developers to use alternative payment systems. Developers may inform customers of lower prices outside the Google ecosystem without retaliation.
