Alphabet Inc. sold ¥576.5 billion (approximately $3.6 billion) in yen-denominated bonds. This transaction marks the largest yen bond issuance ever by a non-Japanese corporation. The sale represents Alphabet's first entry into the yen debt market.
Proceeds will diversify funding sources for artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure. Strong demand from domestic and international investors supported the offering. Major tech companies are increasingly using global debt markets to finance rising costs associated with the AI boom.
The deal surpasses the previous foreign issuer record held by Berkshire Hathaway since 2019. Alphabet issued the bonds in seven tranches. Maturities for the debt range from three to 40 years.
