Google indexed public links to Anthropic Claude conversations and projects. Reddit users first identified the issue, which allowed anyone to search for and access shared chats.
Exposed data reportedly included medical records, legal discussions, internal business documents, and cryptocurrency keys. Anthropic maintains the system functioned as intended because shared links are inherently public.
Search engine crawlers indexed these pages despite Anthropic not providing direct chat directories. Similar indexing issues previously affected OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. Anthropic has since removed the shared conversations from Google search results.
