Anthropic hired prominent researcher Andrej Karpathy to its technical team. Karpathy previously served as a founding member of OpenAI. He also led the Autopilot computer vision team as Tesla’s Director of AI.
The move strengthens Anthropic’s position against rivals OpenAI and Google in the race for advanced AI models. Karpathy stated he joined the firm because the next few years at the frontier of large language models will be especially formative.
The hiring highlights intensifying competition for elite talent among well-funded AI labs. These organizations currently receive significant financial backing from Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
