The U.S. Commerce Department lifted export controls on Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. Anthropic will restore global access to these advanced artificial intelligence tools on July 1, 2026.
The reversal follows a government directive that forced a worldwide shutdown less than three weeks ago. Federal authorities originally imposed the ban on June 12. The restriction barred all foreign nationals from accessing the models to prevent potential cyberattacks.
Officials feared a jailbreak technique could allow users to bypass critical safety features. Anthropic implemented enhanced safeguards after two weeks of collaboration with the U.S. government. The company agreed to proactively address security risks and report malicious activity to federal officials.
