Anthropic plans to lease and manage its own data centers to secure computing power for its AI models. According to The Information, the company signed over a dozen preliminary agreements for U.S. data center capacity. These agreements total more than one gigawatt of power.

The startup is negotiating with Google to provide financial guarantees for these lease payments. This arrangement would utilize Google’s credit rating to secure more favorable terms for Anthropic.

The expansion follows Anthropic’s confidential filing for an initial public offering earlier this month. Google remains a major investor and direct competitor to Anthropic in the artificial intelligence market. Neither company has officially commented on the reports.
