Google’s AI division, DeepMind, acquired a minority stake in Fenris Creations. Fenris Creations is the developer of the space-based multiplayer game Eve Online. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
The investment establishes a research partnership using the game’s virtual world as an AI training ground. DeepMind will study the game's player-driven economy and social systems to improve AI memory and long-term planning. Researchers will utilize an offline version of the game to test and evaluate AI models.
The deal follows a management buyout of the developer, formerly known as CCP Games, from prior owner Pearl Abyss. The studio rebranded as Fenris Creations upon becoming independent.
