Google has updated its generative AI video model, Veo 3.1, to include native vertical video generation. This enhancement is part of an improvement to the 'Ingredients to Video' feature, which allows users to create video content based on one or more reference images, ensuring greater style and character consistency.

The update is specifically geared towards mobile-first, short-form video creation for social media and other platforms. In addition to vertical aspect ratios, the Veo 3.1 update brings more expressive and creative outputs, improved prompt adherence, and the ability to upscale videos to 1080p and 4K resolutions. These new capabilities are being rolled out through Google's Gemini API, Vertex AI, and its AI filmmaking interface, Flow.
