Google is rolling out a new feature called "Skills" for its Gemini AI assistant within the Chrome desktop browser. [3, 7] This update allows users to save frequently used prompts as reusable "Skills" directly from their chat history, aiming to streamline workflows and eliminate repetitive tasks. [6, 11] These saved commands can then be executed with a simple keyboard shortcut to perform tasks on the current webpage or across multiple open tabs. [1, 2]

Google is also launching a library of pre-built Skills for common tasks to help users get started. [2, 6] Example use cases include comparing product specifications while shopping, summarizing long documents for productivity, and calculating nutritional information from online recipes. [7, 8] The feature began rolling out for Chrome desktop users with their browser language set to English in the U.S. [2, 8]
