At its Cloud Next 2026 conference, Google announced a significant expansion of its Gemini-powered "Take Notes for Me" feature in Google Meet. The AI tool, which generates summaries, transcripts, and action items, can now be used for in-person meetings by leveraging a phone's microphone via the Meet mobile app or website.

In a direct competitive move, Google is also extending the feature's functionality to rival platforms. Users will now be able to use the AI note-taking capability during meetings held on Microsoft Teams and Zoom, allowing Google's AI to capture details even when the meeting is hosted on a competitor's service. The updates are part of a broader suite of new AI-driven features for the Google Workspace platform.
