Google has launched Android Automotive OS for Software-Defined Vehicles (AAOS SDV), extending its platform beyond infotainment systems. This expansion allows the operating system to manage non-safety-critical vehicle functions such as climate control, sensors, and seat actuators.
The initiative aims to provide car manufacturers with an open, modular, and scalable software foundation to reduce development costs and accelerate time to market for new features. By offering a standardized platform for more of the car's internal computer systems, Google intends to simplify software updates and portability across different vehicle architectures. The open-source version of AAOS SDV is expected to be available later this year.
