At its I/O 2026 conference, Google announced the integration of its Gemini AI model into YouTube, introducing a conversational search feature and new creator tools. The new "Ask YouTube" function allows users to make complex, natural-language queries instead of relying on simple keywords, with the AI compiling relevant moments from multiple videos into a structured response. This feature is initially rolling out to YouTube Premium members in the U.S.
Additionally, the new Gemini Omni model is being incorporated into YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app. This allows creators to use text and image prompts to alter or remix existing videos, such as changing a scene's visual style or inserting themselves alongside another creator. Google stated that all AI-modified content will be labeled with digital watermarks and metadata, linking back to the original source video.
