Google unveiled Universal Cart at its I/O 2026 conference to create a persistent shopping experience across the internet. Users can add items from various merchants while using Google Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail. The AI-powered system tracks price drops, monitors inventory, and identifies deals in the background.
This feature expands Google’s agentic commerce strategy by using AI agents to manage the shopping process. The system leverages the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard developed with Shopify, Walmart, and Target.
Universal Cart launches in the U.S. this summer. The tool enables checkout across multiple retailers in a single transaction to streamline fragmented online shopping.
