Google will implement new Play Store policies on June 30, 2026. The user choice billing program allows developers to offer alternative payment systems. Developers may also link to external websites for purchases. The initial rollout covers the U.S., U.K., and European Economic Area.
Regulatory pressures from the EU Digital Markets Act and an Epic Games settlement drove the shift. Google will restructure developer commissions into separate service and billing fees. All developers must pay the base service fee. Only developers using Google’s payment processing will pay the additional billing fee. A phased global rollout will continue through September 2027.
