Alphabet's Google signed a solar power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Japan's Shizen Energy in Malaysia. The deal involves purchasing power from a 30-megawatt solar plant. This facility is currently under development and is expected to be operational in 2027.

The PPA aims to power Google’s energy-intensive artificial intelligence infrastructure. This supports the company’s goal of operating on carbon-free energy. The move follows a significant increase in Google’s emissions since 2019, which the company attributes largely to the energy demands of its AI operations.

For Shizen Energy, the agreement represents a key part of its growth strategy in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, the deal aligns with Malaysia's national goal of achieving a 70% renewable-energy share by 2050.
