Google.org, Google's philanthropic arm, announced an ₹85 crore grant to Wadhwani AI. The non-profit will integrate "India-first" AI tools into government educational platforms. This initiative aims to modernize the public education system.
The project targets 75 million students and 1.8 million educators across India. Deployment must conclude by the end of 2027. The investment supports AI-driven features on existing public infrastructure, including the SWAYAM online learning portal.
Key applications include a voice-based AI tool that improves oral reading fluency in ten Indian languages. A separate AI-powered coach focuses on English language skills. The initiative also makes Google's core learning products, Gemini and Google Classroom, more accessible. These products will be offered in multiple Indian languages.
