Google has released new tools for its Gemini AI assistant designed to make it easier for users to switch from competing platforms. The features allow users to import their chat history and personalized context from other AI applications, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude.

The migration process has two main options: users can upload a .zip file of their exported conversation logs, or they can use a specific prompt to generate a summary of their preferences and background details from their current AI assistant to paste into Gemini. This move aims to reduce the friction for new users who have already invested significant time in personalizing other AI chatbots, representing a strategic effort by Google to capture a larger share of the AI user base.
